Windsor’s Arms held this years Artists for Peace and Justice annual TIFF-gala. The annual gathering in support of Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ) has been a philanthropic staple during the Toronto International Film Festival for the past decade. And while other fundraisers have come and gone, this one has thrived, raising impressive $1.4-million dollars at its recent Sept. 8 gala. This adds to the more than $31-million raised by the organization since its foundation, funds that serve the poorest communities in Haiti though programs in education and health care. The event was presented by Luxe Swiss watch brand Bovet, The Gala returned to the Windsor Arms Hotel, site of the original soirée. The red carpet was replaced with a “live” painted work by pop artist Peter Tunney, who encouraged guests to dip their toes in blue paint to help with the canvas creation as they did back in 2009. And after remarks by APJ chief organization since its foundation, funds that serve the poorest communities in Haiti though programs in education and health care. A handful of well-known guests, including APJ board co-chairs Ben Stiller and Susan Sarandon, gala co-chairs NKPR Natasha Koifman and Zoomer Magazine editor Suzanne Boyd, rolled up their sleeves and served dinner as they did during last year. Among those honoured were Kate and David Daniels, presented with the Canadian Changemaker Award by Birks, handed out by actor/singer Alan Cumming and actor and activist Harry Belafonte, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
